Pam and I had guest in town since Sunday so I have been a slacker with the blog. As I scream towards 7500 page views you would think I would focus and get a post out, but NO! I shirked my duties instead.
I have been thinking about a post for a couple of days and this is what I came up with. Here are some sites that have some exercises you can do at home without having to buy any equipment.

Check these out and see if you find something you like then start. If it's just 10 minutes a day you can get done - do it. Then next week or next month add another minute or two a day and keep doing it until you get where YOU want to get. Then remember to keep active enough to maintain the results you get.
We all have what it takes to get where we want to go. We just need to be smart and stay out of our own way.
Guilt or NO Guilt: Athena and I have made our 6.7 mile route on Monday and Wednesday. Besides some replanting and moving of plants that is all I have to report.

Finding A Reason To Finish
We humans seem really good at starting things, but we don't do as well when it comes to finishing. Any of us who have set out to lose weight or quit smoking or whatever have found ways to get in our own way. The trick is to find more reasons to continue than you find to quit.
We all know that, Paully! I know that I am the master of the obvious right now, but simplicity really is the key to stuff like this. Just like when I preach to make one decision instead of making decisions over and over, this is The same kind of concept.
Decide to finish and just do it. Trick yourself into stuff if you have to, but keep moving forward. You don't have to always keep on a perfectly straight line to get to the end, but you DO need to keep moving. Giving up is always easier, but if you prioritize yourself it can't be an option.
Every time I head out to walk or hike or whatever I have tons of opportunities to accept failure. My left knee lately has decided to be an issue, but if I am going to get where I need to be I can't lat that excuse stop me or even slow me down.
I'm getting a little preachy - even for me - but this is important. Forward momentum and picking yourself to win are key to getting where you need to be. You are no good for anyone else unless you are good to you first. Choose to be a formidable force in your own world. Only then can you be that kind of force in the rest of it.
Athena and I busted out 6.7 miles in 1:18:15 today for a whopping 5.14 MPH. I have been keeping Bach's Brandenburg Concerto #3 first movement in my head to keep the pace up. I have it running a little fast, but it works. Like I said, sometimes you need to cheat the system to get the results you want.

A Pretty Problem To Have
We arrived at Paradise in Mt Rainier National Park for our hike up to Camp Muir yesterday at about 8 AM. I put on my boots and grabbed my pack. I put my arms through the shoulder straps and grabbed the waist belt, snapped the buckle and tightened the straps and SNAP!
My buckle broke. As you can sort of see there was an attempt to jury rig the thing with a zip tie, but there was no fixing it. Mind you I have every other buckle spare in my repair kit, but no extra waist strap buckles. I was NOT going up to Camp Muir. I was NOT happy.
Luckily my better 2/3rds, Pam to most of you, had a clearer head and suggested we at least take our water and camera and check out the wildflowers around Paradise. I rigged up a strap for the camera bag since it usually just gets attached to my pack and off we went. Our total hike/nature walk at Paradise was about 6 miles and resulted in over 300 pictures on 2 memory cards from my camera.
Here is a fine sampling of what we saw.

We added a chunk of the Kautz Creek Trail for yucks and giggles and finished at Whitacker's Basecamp Grill for some veggie pizza and Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. Next year we are just going to add a hike for wildflowers. Sure you don't get a ton of exercise, but WOW what a payoff. I wish I had words to convey how fantastic it smelled up there. All I can say is take the time to go. It is well worth it.
