Yesterday and today we did some hiking in good old
Washington! Thursday we hiked a trail
called Twin Peaks that’s trailhead was just across from White Pass Campground.
We ended up with just over 8 miles and Athena probably did 12. We enjoyed the
elevation gain and trails that we were used to even though we did get a little
confused by some animal trails on the way back and did a little offroading
until we found the trail again.
Today we cured a curiosity. We like to travel HWY 12 when we
head over to wine country, and we always see the trailhead for Bear Creek
Trail. Today we stopped and headed up. The trail was basically unmaintained,
but we managed 2 miles in before turning back.
Again, Athena got in
more like 6 miles. She may not look like a trail dog, but she has a nose for
it. So far this trip she has flushed 3 game birds. I don’t think she’d make
much a hunting dog since she hates loud noises and silencers are illegal.
Last night we camped at Hause Creek Campground. There were 2
other camping groups there although we could only see 1.
Tonight we are staying
at Crow Butte Park near Paterson, Wa. as Columbia Crest is having their Cellar
Sale tomorrow. This park is an island in
the Columbia River. Tomorrow we’ll head up to Prosser for 2 nights in Wine
Country and maybe Walla Walla for a night after that.
More soon…..
