A Perfect Birthday

We headed to Mount Rainier on Saturday for a Camp Muir attempt. Pam is at the tail end of a cold or it would have been a no brainer.

The weather was great, but the gate at Longmire wasn't open when we arrived. We had to hang around an hour before the gate opened so we hit the trail at 8:40. After about .8 of a mile we had to put on our snowshoes to avoid post-holing.

We went past Panorama Point before stopping so we could get to some cover as the wind was blowing some and it was cold. We took in some calories and continued.

At 3 miles and 8000 feet of altitude Pam and I turned around. Her pace was steady but too slow for the cold so my feet were getting too cold. I guess that's why they have those fancy winter/mountaineering boots.

We ran into some nice folks from Atlanta on the way down that kind of reminded us of how we travel. They were hitting the sights and asking locals what they should do next - nice.

Here are the pictures of the trek.

More soon...
